The OORAY is also identified by its scientific name Davidsonia pruriens. Some people use the term Davidson’s plum or Davidson Plum to identify the OORAY and others in the Davidsonia genus, such as, Davidsonia  jerseyana and Davidsonia johnsonii.

The OORAY, Davidsonia pruriens, is endemic to the rainforest regions of far north Queensland.
